Thank you for writing about Reinaldo and your clever and warm portrayal of him. I came to know him in the Graydon Carter era. Reinaldo traveled with me to Madrid once to smooth my way in a city I didn't know and introduce me to his aristo friends. I was there to do a piece for VF on "Hola!" and its editor, Eduardo Sanchez Junco. As it turned out, Eduardo and his mother, Mercedes, who played a major role in the magazine, were both charming, affable, generous with their time. I expect that Reinaldo played a role behind the scenes. Once he took me to a dinner where everyone seemed to have a royal title, as he did. He was very warm, attentive, and direct. I still can hear him chiding me for not wearing makeup and having my hair done. Over time he and I became good friends. He and Carolina were welcoming and generous, offering me their home several times, once for an overnight stay when a night flight I was taking was cancelled and suddenly I had no place to stay in Manhattan (I was living in DC then). I saw Carolina very rarely, but met with Reinaldo off and on, at their new brownstone home on East 91st, at Cipriani's on Fifth, but that was long ago. I am sorry I didn't see him these last few years.
So glad you had such a great friendship. I can't think of anyone I would rather have to smooth my way in a city. Will miss him and love these memories T
Terrific in all respects. Obvs the Trump/Hegseth stuff, but I particularly enjoyed the lovely piece about Reinaldo Herrera. You brought him back to life for those of us who never knew him, and made absolutely clear why you adored him so much.
Jeffrey Goldberg is a hero in my eyes. I subscribe to The Atlantic. Love it.
Vanity Fair was never the same without you Tina. I did enjoy it with Graydon, but after him...awful. In fact the only reason I keep my subscription active (forever) is I have it on my Ipad, give the hard copy to my doorman (always hated those scented perfume strips) and I can read all the archives online everywhere. I miss Dominick Dunne so much, and Bob Collachello.I just recently did read the articles on Gloria TNT and Madame Claude. I would have loved to have read the the stories Dom would have written about our Vulgarian-in-Chief.
I am so saddened to hear about the Passing of Reinaldo Herrara. I though he and Carolina were such a lovely lovely, elegant couple. One winter in NYC I was invited to a jewelry store"s Xmas Party they threw on Park Avenue and who walked in but Carolina and Reinaldo. I am a nobody, and they were both so nice and friendly and lovely to me.
And then there's you! The minute I saw you on substack I became a member immediately. I think you had tech problems (like everyone) on substack during your live interview with Maureen but I bought her book immediately. I have all of yours!
This was a great article today. Enjoyed it very much Hope all is okay with your son and did you get your own bully? They are so precious and endearing. I love them. Thanks for the great article today.
Another read out loud piece. Referring to Musk as a “toy-smashing toddler” and Trump “twisting his knife into the soft flesh of sycophants as the cameras roll”…genius! Reinaldo’”social energy” and the description of him as ”a golden retriever in a dinner jacket” a witty, affectionate tribute to a man you obviously adored. Hope you enjoyed your vacation. Welcome back!🤗
Two very different examples of humanity brought alive by Tina’s writing genius.
Much appreciate this T
I try!

In my experience this is true T

What a beautiful tribute to your Venezuelan friend. That was a good reminder of what good manners can be.
I am so glad you liked it. A disappearing breed T
