Tina. How could Georgie not have his own martini glass? Shocked!
Luigi Mangione is already a legend. I mean, the girlies are salivating. The vibe is - finally, a man! It’s not because he killed someone, it’s because he did something tangible to fix a problem. Brian Thompson’s death is tragic. It didn’t have to happen. But he represents the kind of modern man people, frankly, are sick to death of. A man made rich but not powerful by other rich men who exist to prop up a system designed to take instead of give.
As an X user wrote, “the insanity of finding out the United Healthcare CEO killer is not just a social justice warrior but an absolute panty-dropper. Special times.” Indeed. We're at the point where 26 yo prep-schooled Ivy Leaguers are sacrificing their futures to course correct a society they had no hand in making.
Growing up, I didn’t know one single person or family who wasn’t covered somehow by a decent employer-provided health plan running a healthy gamut ranging from lucrative white collar jobs to degrading p/t jobs at the mall. And I didn’t grow up wealthy by any means. And now? Well, special times. Then, no one could imagine paying more than $360 in pre-tax contributions towards your health plan. Now, “Affordable” Care Act plans run as high as $1,300/mo.
The story here is not Luigi or Brian Thompson. The real story is, in a world dominated by rich, powerless men, American society has gotten sicker than ever.
I'm not a true crime aficionado in general, but honestly, I think Luigi Mangione's good looks are what's driving his folk hero status. I can practically see the romance novel now, the fictional young woman who hides him from the authorities: "There was only one cure for the malady in her heart. But could she afford the copay?"
And isn't this the first headline shooting that relied upon a gun from a 3-D printer? The repercussions from THAT are gonna be very interesting! What do Second Amendment fanboys think of 3-D printed guns?
Tina. Every morning . My husband. “What do you want for Xmas ?” The answer . Always. “Nothing .” This morning. I’ll have Georgie as guest to dine with Turkey on toasted nine grain with lettuce , tomato, pickles , a bit of red onion and extra mayo, chips and the best chocolate chippers ever from Subway . Merry merry and all that jazz.
You've hit on all the topics I've been mulling over this morning. I, too, have an adult daughter on the spectrum who lives on her own now for 6 years. She segued from the minutes away to an hour. She is here now with a cold. Christmas is her favorite time to show off how quickly she gets all her shopping done. I have been burdened with the care of my demented parents and have nothing done but decorating. Love the list!
I love Georgie's christmas list. Who doesnt need new socks? Esp if one's mother or the washing machine keeps taking them away?? I wish you would bring him to India! Merry Christmas to my favorite Evans' !
Regarding the Gilgo murders - I too am a true crime vampire. None of the ghoulish ghastly acts of violence which I rarely read but the drivers and enablers of these deeply disturbed yet functioning humans. Recently been OD ing on the Thirwall inquiry (convicted serial killer Lucy Letby) The absolute refusal of highly paid hospital to accept responsibility for their errors - not to mention lazy bullying behaviour is abhorrent. Similarly with the failure of police to follow up that lead in 2011 allowed more women to be sadistically assaulted and murdered. There will be similar incidents with this recent murder. Rarely do serious crimes exist without a trail of evidence ignored by those entrusted to respond.

Wonderful column from top to bottom. Only Tina would know “elusive pimpernel.” Indeed, she surely knows the rest of it:
They seek him here,
They seek him there,
Those Frenchies seek him everywhere.
Is he in heaven?
Or is he in ….
That damned elusive pimpernel.
Tina, that Christmas list made me cry. Georgie has somehow read my heart - every single item on it speaks to my SOUL
Georgie: Demand cashmere. Accept no substitutes.

I am constantly amazed that ghost guns are not illegal to buy or sell. Do they not kill people just like real guns?
Agree 100% his looks are fundamental to his new fan club.
They will most likely be fans of 3D printed guns.

The welcome mat is brilliant. It would stop me and make me laugh, nervously, before knocking quite softly.
I was howling with laughter at the end. My partner and I have a Georgie, too. I love the way you look at the world. Thank you.

Georgie's wish list touched me but not as much as your loving having him as your roommate.
Such a great word for it: “obsessionals.”
This also struck a chord with me: "... the last safe refuge of community."

Georgie leaving the nest is huge! So thrilled his Las Vegas pad will be within a stones throw of you, T 💜 Happy Christmas
