Thank you for writing about this wretched administration with verve and imagination, and ending on a hopeful note. This was, for all its playfulness, truly insightful and thought-provoking. Too many pointy-heads (like me) miss the significance of Trump’s reality TV training and orientation, having never watched « The Apprentice » but your take is highly plausible and I’ll be looking at further developments through this lens (and others). It doesn’t improve our lot but at least it makes some sense out of the crazy. It also gives some spark to a genre of critique that already feels stale and repetitive. Well done!
Texas is just the beginning. "Dogeing" the national weather service has imperilled the whole country! Americans will suffer as a result of Trump's treacherous, treasonous policies. Lock him up!
Skip the courts and send Trump to 'an asylum". He can't differentiate between reality and a reality show. Give him Fox News on endless loop and a handful of cheap, gold tchotchkes. He'll never know the difference but the rest of us will.
Almost hard to fathom that he still has the mental capacity to be so shrewd with his timing and understanding of news cycles. 'Course, it doesn't preclude folks around him having the same talent and directing him as such.
The reality is that no authoritarian can become successful without a massive number of collaborators and toadies.
The hair-tossing Gavin Newsom goes on my list of favorite descriptions from you.
But your sobering comment about vaccines reminds me how far we’ve regressed and how quickly. Measles and polio returning after being effectively eradicated and parents, all wanting the best for their children, simply not knowing whom to believe because we no longer have experts, we have experimenters. Sadly, we are all the lab rats.
And what next, post Trump! My psyche aches for the forever gone days of my youth, where all politicians seemed boring, but my illusion of thinking they knew what they were doing held my boat steady to move forward for my self interested enterprises.
The discomfort of catching up to my civic duty to help keep democracy alive has become the song of my life now.
Sitting with a close woman friend this early evening. Commiserating our dismay with Trump and State of Nation. We concurred Stephen “serpent “ Miller. Not Trump is steering the ship of doom and despite Donald’s seemingly warmth for his family IF their ship was sinking he’d wave them goodbye to drown whilst he head out on solo lifeboat.
Thanks Tina, in this world of global media I think Agent Orange strives for ultra-reality. He will most likely build a mini coliseum in the Rose Garden, with daily pay-per-view livestreams of battles between lions, tigers, and his various political hates (immigrants/naturalized citizens/woke professors/prosecutors/judges/spurned cabinet secretaries/world leaders who refuse to pay extortion monies/etc). Will the advertising revenues come from the tech giants I wonder?
TB, you have done it again. Laugh-out-loud funny, and devastatingly astute, this is the best takedown of Trump I have ever heard. I wish I could craft the words you deserve, but I don't use ChatGPT. I would support your Substack with my last dollar. Thank you, dear one,
Ms. Brown - In this beautifully crafted masterful piece, you omitted one important portion of The Trump Show:. Perhaps your next "Fresh Hell" edition will present "The Stephen Miller Show" featuring the appearance of that new arena-worthy act called "I.C.E.", with it's presenting partners, The Supreme(s) Court!
Tina, you are awesome. What a great analogy (reality show government) and summary to date of Trump and this ridiculous and exceptionally stupid and cruel administration. I salute you and love to read everything you write. Forza!
I did not know about the two week cycle for news. Your breakdown of events around the “Orange Lotus” is spot on brilliant. Trump using media to his advantage is clear to me now. More disasters will come from understaffing. No question. Your interpretation of current events is always educational and entertaining. Always enjoyable. Thank you.

And we’re only at the beginning of hurricane season.
Karma cannot arrive soon enough.
A satirical tour de force that ends with a punch to the gut!

Tina, you are a Treasure! You just made my day brighter and more hopeful. This certainly is share-worthy and also pinned to my desktop. MORE!
