When writer Brad Gooch called to ask me if I had any memories of working with the late French glamour photographer Patrick Demarchelier for a piece he's writing, I went truffle hunting through some of my back issues of Talk magazine. What did I see?
I am pleased to read a snarkless piece about Harry. The permanent damage done to a very young man by this sick, sick exploitation can't be repaired with 12 million dollars, but anything that causes the Murdochs heartburn is something...
Am I alone in my despair that there’s no appetite to pursue those who lied under oath and dissembled at NGN? If a murderer was exonerated on the grounds of no DNA evidence then 20 years later such evidence was found, they’d be retried. No one would claim lack of appetite. Where’s justice?
It is sadly apparent that the billionaire class makes its own rules and is accountable to no one. Justice has become a commodity that people like Murdoch casually purchase. The leitmotif of our times is: “Who would have thought it possible, but here we are.”
Love your insights, commentary and particularly wordsmithing . You make even things that would usually be of no interest or concern to me ( e.g Prince Harry) a rewarding use of my time despite the fact that my attention is more productively focused elsewhere. 🙂🙂
Guilty pleasure from the past. I listened to Howard Stern interview Donald or “the Donald” as Howard called him. Donald bragged that Melania was waiting in bed, naked for them to call her. Very long time ago, obviously. Bravo Harry. Poor prince was robbed of his childhood. As you say, Diana is smiling in heaven, no doubt.
Once, in the spring of 1985, I spent ten days in Delhi. The apartment where I stayed, most of that time alone, looked out on the street and a park where a couple of uniformed guards slept in hammocks in the unbearably hot afternoons. I saw no one walking the street, nothing moving, beggars asleep in the heat, under covers. On cooler hours, I walked to small shops packed floor to ceiling with stuff. Blankets, saris, scarves. Delhi was magical, maniacal. Never seen a more vibrant, more stately and crowded city, and so loud. Well, later, maybe Bangkok, Hong Kong, Manila. I can´t wait to read your notes from India.
Beneath the black hat geometry time tinkers with model Mel's jawline, and crepe paper neck. Another aging human, but where money bones and bust will take you. I have to pay more attention the royal news. Imagine aging out without having the image of Harry's frostbitten willy to hold onto as your own extremities chill.
The nature of the fee shifting civil litigation rules in the U.K. was such that this case was always always going to settle - indeed, an under commented part of last week’s statements was News UK’s dig that it was Harry that initiated the settlement talks last week. And there’s one big reason he had to do this. Even if he had been successful, if he had been awarded less than News had offered in a “Part 36” offer he’d have had to pay News UK’s legal costs.
Interesting questions abound online about whether he’d also been influenced by the delay to Meghan’s Netflix series. I think they’re red herrings.
Settlement was destiny here.
Whilst last week’s outcome was undoubtedly a good tactical win, was it a strategic one? It leaves his litigation strategy after the Government and Associated Newspapers in tatters.

I agree. The damage will never be assuaged but at least he made them sweat and pay T

It is sickening i agree. lack of accountability so bad.

Happy to keep wasting your time! Thx T
Very good on the Harry settlement; I wonder if Fox actually paid all of the huge to Dominion?
Yes they got the full check within minutes of the settlement I was told by ceo.

How lovely to hear from you Luisita and be reminded what a terrific writer you are. Just back from India - such a crazy magical place. T
I agree on Prince Harry, and double treble agree on Murdoch, and his baleful effect on the USA, and the world.
Unfortunately it seems Murdoch is going to live forever

Ultimately you never really win when you take on the tabs.
