Absolutely brilliant. Virtuosic, as always. Can you be in charge of all the news rooms?

Tina Brown's avatar

what an exhausting thought. Always easier to be an outside critic of course! T

We’ll take you as gadfly and minor

So true.

Tina you are the best!

HI V, you are pretty great yourself! T

Dear Tina,

Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.

Do remember that before Amazon, Bozos was a Wall Street hustler. With that hustle and those connections he bullied, hustled, pimped, shaded, and scammed his way to the top, stepping on anyone and everyone along the way. If you had lived anywhere near the Seattle environs in the go-go years of the 1990s this was common knowledge. In those days newly minted Amazon workers would spill the beans to anybody who was willing to stop by the loading dock at their Georgetown warehouse. Anyone from those days knew the moment he bought the Post he was up to no good.

As to what is happened to him since then, you have chronicled it more than once with your splendid missives of his wedding, and the putrefying of America by the billionaire class.

Now compare Bozos, and his fellow billionaire's antics in this country to those of billionaire Jimmy Lai of Hong Kong. A citizen of the UK Jimmy never gave up on the land and people he claims gave him everything in becoming one of the wealthiest tycoons there. Rather than being a silent shrill a.k.a. Bozos, Musk Oil, Suckerburger, and Crook, when liberty and freedom were threatened, he laid it all on the line for the people and the youth of Hong Kong., Now, according to his son, he will die in prison during his 20 year sentence handed down February 9, 2026.

As this hellion has stated before commenting on your fine writing, not Tech Bros, Tech 'Ho's. To paraphrase the great Norman Mailer; they now all have their billionaire knee pads on with mouths wide open servicing our current President, as he ejaculates billions in gov't contracts down their throats to keep the frat boy party in full swing. Who needs Epstein and underage girls when you have Tech 'Ho's ready to swallow?

Tina Brown's avatar

Oh wow, Trumpel, you are on a roll here. I didn't know about Bezos's past predations but it makes total sense,, alas. And yes you are so right on Jimmy Lai. I have followed the case closely and met both his kids. He is such a hero and I fear he will now die in a Hong Kong prison. So good to compare our tech bros with him.

Linda's avatar

Whoa!! I wasn't aware of the spread of Bezo's background and your dissing of the Techies is right on. I live in a canyon without cellphone reception -- all my neighbors have gone to Starlink, but I refuse to give Musk and his Trump/porn X one damn dime. I don't do MZ's Facebook, either, which is inconvenient when so many businesses use it. It's still a landline for me. A luddite woman of principle,I'm holding out to the end!!

Trumpelstilskin's avatar

Thanks Linda! Bozos spent eight years on Wall Street. It is there he met first wife Mackenzie. She was as much of force in getting amazon up and going as he. What she has done with billions of dollars shows how flaccid and limp he has been with his. To compensate he decided to build a flaming, thrusting giant Schwanstucker, like Musk Oil, to enable his IPF, Intergalactic Phallic Fantasies.

In this thread, another hellion Thomas Manetta put forth a similar comment.

Kurt Vonnegut did a great take on all of this in a 1970s Playboy magazine interview. He said few people knew that NASA was running the greatest damn massage parlor in the country down at Cape Canaveral, with the visceral experience that came with being right next to a rocket launch, calling the whole thing a giant space f^ck.

Linda's avatar

Not enough to suck up all that Earth offers, with their football size yachts, multiple mansion, etc. -- they want to go to Mars and mine it, too. I hope I don't live to see a giant X on the moon....

Bridget Wilson's avatar

Ahahahah! Great response. Made my day. Tech hos, indeed. Thanks.

Bridget,

Thank you for the kind words

Day-um! That’s quite an image. And quite accurate

Jules,

Heartfelt hanks. It's easy when the inspiration is Tina Brown. Every time I read her I'm catapulted right back to improv classes under the L in the Windy City, ready to riff and roll with a written version of the Harold. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harold_(improvisation)

My God, you Hellions are the Furies incarnate and so glad to have you all on this thread! T

Time for Marty Baron to found and edit a workers' coop Substack and hire the 300 laid off reporters. Heather Cox Richardson has 2.8 *million* Substack subscribers. There are readers and money out there to support news -- about Metro D.C. one of the most interesting places in the world, the capitol of the most highly educated, high per capita income black men and women; books, for God's sake, in the nexus of the best public schools in the country and high college ed per capita; sports people love; international news as China leaps to the fore economically and our post WW II allies fall away and form new alliances as Trump decimates decades of trade policy. Plenty of news, plenty of readers, plenty of reporters and exemplars of the new medium in which a reporter can make a living.

And you're completely right. Journalism is about what the readers don't know.

Pastures new, Posties. Let Bezos, and especially, particularly, with emphasis, Will Lewis, macerate in their own shit. Let's roll.

Tina Brown's avatar

Macerate! A great word I shall appropriate forthwith! T

ICYM this is the wildly successful Cleveland workers’ coop. They do hospital laundry, a commodity for which there will always be a need.

Evergreen is who helped them set it up. You can hire them to help set up your workers’ coop.

It is so depressing and such a great newspaper before he emasculated it. Thank you for this article.

Bezos wants government contracts for the future of Blue Origin. WAPO was annoying the orange turd.

Deirdre LaMotte's avatar

Bezos needs WAPO as leverage with Trump: with sycophant editorial content so his space ambitions keep US government contracts. Same with Amazon.

He could be worth 250 trillion and his ambition would remain.

That is why I do not think he’d consider WAPO going non profit, which would save this former grand dame.

The whole thing is grotesque.

Tina Brown's avatar

Yes. The great question of our times about all these tech guys, is when is enough enough? T

Frau Katze's avatar

To sell would be to admit he’d failed.

Tina Brown's avatar

I agree. He is unwilling to admit he just got this all wrong T

Awfully good stuff without a hint of self importance.

It is public and standard as descriptive adjectives go, but not common, so I applaud hearkening to the literary antecedent of "pneumatic" to describe Lauren Sanchez. Another writing coup IMO.

Tina Brown's avatar

One has to cast around for new and old adjectives to describe the Sanchez phenomenon! T

FOMOMoz's avatar

I love that adjective. It really paints a picture

Tina - when you are good…..👍

Bridget Wilson's avatar

Another great, well reasoned piece, thanks Tina. As a journo who was laid off from a newspaper by a new proprietor, I know only too well the wily ways of the billionaire. ‘How hard can it be?’ they think simplistically. The Washington Post is a national treasure and must be protected at all costs.

Tina Brown's avatar

I think we need to give up on trying to find a tech billionaire to save journalism and come up with new ways! T

Bridget Wilson's avatar

Too right! and I bet it was never his intention to save journalism - his pockets were deep but his understanding of the business was very shallow

Kim Vernon's avatar

Brilliant yet again. Calling a spade a spade. Bezos really seems to have a split personality. Or chose a new one that he thought more attractive to....well....Lauren! And a growing list of people that benefit from his financial largess.....

Tina Brown's avatar

He has definitely had a head transplant in the last five years T
