Worst season of Homeland, ever. The characters are poorly written and the plot is moronic. The President, in particular, is laughable. The ratings will be terrible.
As Jane Goodall said in her last interview before her death.." I would like to put Trump, Musk. Netenyahu and all their acolytes on a Musk rocket and send them off!
Trump is acting like a mad emperor who recognizes no constraints on his power. Frighteningly, we've seen Congress fold, the courts have had a mixed record and even some world leaders have enabled him. Maybe a couple have manipulated him too. The Putin invite to Trump's gilded 'Board of Peace' is truly at the level of Orwellian doublespeak. I was saddened to see Machado demean herself by giving him the medal. She too will learn that all who dally with Trump end up being thrown away eventually.
It gets worse by the hour. I thought it was great that Macron declined the Board of Peace but deeply disappointed Carney has agreed. Had they all said no it would have been a powerful statement, leaving Putin , Orban and who else? Kim Jong Un? T
Trump's World View stops at the inside edge of his skull. Nothing else matters to him. When nothing exists outside yourself there is no morality and no conscience. It's hard to imagine anyone more dangerous than this man.
I know. We have a deranged man child in a position of maximum power. Surely even the Republicans will start to wonder if it's safe to leave him there T
So, Tina, what would you do with this madman-in-charge who probably had no idea what the “Noble Peace prize” was until Obama won it? At the advanced age of 75, I’m still shocked when I see the dullards of the Republican Party.
Tina, you summed it all up as usual. I would like to add that Putin and trump are colluding on Greenland. Putin has been in trump's ear for the better part of 10 years, and has ramped up his relationship with trump as his puppet. I truly believe that trump will do anything putin tells him to do. We all have to stop kidding ourselves and get rid of both of them!
I agree that Putin plays a weird Svengali role with Trump and finding out why is one of the big questions of our time. It maybe just that he feels affinity with thugs, but for sure Putin has no desire to bring peace to Ukraine and all the noise Trump is making with his other foreign forays is just to conceal he has got nowhere with that in my view T
Trump is also colluding with his billionaire buddies. The natural resources in Greenland are worth trillions, and billionaires have been quietly buying into the island ahead of Trump seizing it, including Ronald Lauder (who reportedly gave Trump the idea of buying Greenland in 2018), Bezos, Thiel, Altman, Bloomberg, and Gates. I agree with you that Putin is surely ecstatic at the idea of NATO splintering. Undoubtedly Trump has promised him commercial interests in Greenland.
"His stipulation that nation members of the new Gaza Board of Peace must pay a billion dollars for membership in perpetuity, as if they are top-tier Mar-a-Lago applicants, was a vomitous expression of diplomatic profanity...."
A vomitous expression of diplomatic profanity.
Somehow the way you slammed "vomitous" and "profanity" so closely together in that sentence is almost onomatopoeic.
Nice piece. It’s all very well that clever scribes like you, Tina, write these clever pieces like this, but when o when is someone actually going to DO anything constructive to end this perilous reign.
It has to be a wave of resistance from every quarter. But with the Republicans in the majority there can be no real restraint on Trump till after the mid terms. He knows that which is why he's on the rampage. T
No domestic force has the ability or integrity or fortitude to stand up to him, nor will it (don't expect an election, or if there is, don't expect the outcome to prevail). Only the outside world can stop him. So far, Brazil seems to be the only country that has not backed down. Eventually maybe China will stop him (although that might be catastrophic for everybody).
Mid terms, mid terms, mid terms. And let's remember he's mortal. Also people make their biggest mistakes when they think they are at their most powerful. T
Just make sure you watch the Netflix series on the Nuremberg trials and a lot of great footage on Hitler and his thugs - btw try matching them to Trump’s cabinet and you’ll find it frightening.
I’ve been waiting with bated breath for your always spot on perspective about his despicable (as if he could get even more despicable) grab for Greenland and anything else he fancies it seems. Of course at the bottom of his very sick mind is his own personal envy of Obama. He got a Nobel so should I!! It’s simply astonishing how far he’ll go to satisfy his insatiable need to exact revenge for whatever he thinks he deserves. 8 Wars? WTF is he talking about? Russia and China love any action to destroy NATO. No matter. He’s destroying our country in so many ways it’s hard to keep track of the hourly horrific headlines. It’s frightening and so impossible to understand how the sick people that support him and the Congress and Courts who green light whatever he wants tear down our democracy. I do love reading Fresh Hell but what are we to do other than be sad and frightened and powerless to stop him?
Thanks so much, Jennifer and I agree things have become more and more alarming. There are no restraints on Trump's power till Dems regain the House which at ;east will slow him down, unless he finds a way to derail the mid-terms in which case we are in true crisis/ Thanks for being such an engaged reader T
Europe and the rest of the free world need to stop negotiating concessions with Trump and recognize that - like Hitler - every concession feeds Trump’s appetite. If he gets Greenland he’ll then go after Canada. He needs to be stopped now. Later will be too late.
I love our commenters too - such a smart group. We will look back at this time as a terrible aberration or the beginning of a dark era. Thanks so much for writing T
"Well now, what happened is... ahm... one of our base commanders, he had a sort of... well, he went a little funny in the head... you know... just a little... funny. And, ah... he went and did a silly thing... He ordered his planes... to attack your country...".
Kubrick anticipated Donald Trump perfectly, what happens if your president (with an “alcoholic personality” we are told by his staff), loses control and goes a little “funny in the head”….
I appreciate the sentiment ♥️ however, at present, the most applicable portion of the 25th amendment would be Section 4 (which still doesn't result in full removal from office) - here are the stages of that section:
✔️ The Vice President and the majority of the Cabinet can transmit a written declaration to the Senate and House that the President is unable to discharge the powers and duties of his office. ✔️ Upon transmission of the written declaration, the Vice President becomes the ACTING President. ✔️ The President can COUNTER by transmitting a written declaration that no inability exists. ✔️ If the President counters, the Vice President and the Cabinet have four days to re-affirm their declaration of inability to the Senate and House. ✔️ Then, within about 21 days, the Congress (both the House and Senate) would need votes of two-thirds apiece to keep the Vice President as ACTING President. ✔️ Otherwise, the President RESUMES office. 📜 Source: https://constitution.congress.gov/constitution/amendment-25/
🤓 Analysis: Because of the political ramifications, the only realistic way of applying Section 4 of the 25th amendment would be for true incapacitation and not just the incoherence we’re observing. 💡 In light of that, here's the most viable path to removal that I see (which involves playing to Senate Republicans' avarice and potentially limiting Vance's maximum eligibility as President to six years, instead of up to ten 👀):
➡️ If the House Democrats proceed to crush the Republicans in the November 2026 midterms, then, upon assuming office (around January 3rd, 2027), they could claim a mandate to vote immediately to impeach.
➡️ Have a quick impeachment trial (about two weeks), so that the trial ends before January 20th, 2027, the midpoint of Trump's term. For reference, the most recent impeachment trial took two weeks and four days.
➡️ If the Senate votes for conviction/removal BEFORE the midpoint, Vance would be sworn in and then serve more than two years of a Presidential term, which means that he can be elected to only ONE more term (per the 22nd amendment), so the Republicans can have fresh candidates / an open field in 2032 and “hedge” in 2028, as Vance will either be: 🔸 a failed candidate in '28 (being the point person for the current administration's agenda and possibly preside over an AI bust), or 🔸 elected, but a "lame duck" after the '30 midterms and termed out in ‘32.
➡️ Ultimately, serving the "public good" is not what will motivate Senate Republicans to vote for removal; instead, a "long game" view (for attainment of raw power) is our only hope. 😂
Worst season of Homeland, ever. The characters are poorly written and the plot is moronic. The President, in particular, is laughable. The ratings will be terrible.
But now the show looks like it's really heating up! War over Greenland will bring in a whole new Arctic demo! !
As Jane Goodall said in her last interview before her death.." I would like to put Trump, Musk. Netenyahu and all their acolytes on a Musk rocket and send them off!
I think deporting them to Secot is a better fate! T
YES!!! And let us add in Kristi Noem! What is that saying the bible: "Do unto others".

Fantastic!
I am glad you appreciated the rant. At this moment it's hard to find new words for the disgust or keep up with the number of Trump depredations. T
Ha. We have a lot of confidence in you, Tina, that you'll find the words !
For real… very sadly.

Here’s what I wrote inspired by your story: https://medium.com/illumination/trump-greenland-and-the-addictive-logic-of-king-baby-f2ec4cd6cfdd?sk=e26c3aa53d9120ab089d45c7a59b3d0f

I was riveted by that show, too. And like you i played the matching game. Stephen Miller - Himmler or Goebbels ? T

I so agree. I was so disappointed that Mark Carney accepted the Board of Peace. Every single nation leader should have said no, like Macron. T
There went the Nobel Peace Prize - right into that Mar-a-Lago storeroom of memorabilia of Western civilization trashed by Trump.
What an agonizing thought but of course you are right, Charlie. xx T
Tina, you give Trump your fantastic way with words and tell it like it is. I love all of the comments and agree. What to do but sigh......
I love our commenters too - such a smart group. We will look back at this time as a terrible aberration or the beginning of a dark era. Thanks so much for writing T
I wonder what Putin said to T in Alaska. Now T wants to send Arctic paratroopers to Minneapolis.
I long to know what Putin and T say to each other every time they speak. I think if we had the print out we would be even more horrified T

I feel we are totally there and should be days away from the 25th amendment! T

Thank you for letting some of my steam off. So well put, interpreting our feelings.
Sometimes its so bad I just have to rant! T
That’s the kind of rant I need in these trying times. I appreciate it very much.
