Just finished the excellent book and then stumbled on your interview. Thank you for bring Greenblatt on to discuss. Great interview!

A character analogous to Caravaggio in temperament and affectation, it seems.

I ordered the book halfway through the fascinating discussion.

I look forward to broadening my understanding, first stimulated by reading Charles Nicholl's "The Reckoning."

I loved this because it was not only historically riveting but because it gave my brain a very needed break from politics and our current discourse! thank you for disrupting my brain pattern, Tina and Stephen!

Good stuff Tina. Are we headed for our own era of religious extremism and censorship like Elizabethan England? Are we already there? Fascinating to dust off this Marlowe character, who before was only a name.

It has a lot of echoes. But what Greenblatt shows is how Elizabethan England was more like Iran or Saudi in its religious suppression and lethal consequences of blasphemy.. It was a dark and scary time to live T
